The AOR Full Form in Law is Advocate on Record. An advocate who is entitled to act and plead on behalf of a party in the Supreme Court of India under Article 145 of the Constitution is known as an Advocate-on-Record under Order IV of the Supreme Court Rules, before accordance with the regulations, no advocate may file an appearance or represent a party before the Supreme Court of India if they are not an advocate on record. Unless directed by an advocate-on-record, no advocate may appear in any cause.
Qualifications to be an advocate on record:
For an advocate to become an AOR, they should be enrolled with their respective state Bar council. He should not be designated as a senior advocate and shall have completed atleast four years of legal practice on the date of commencement of his or her one year of training under the AOR. The advocate should also have completed one year of training with the AOR and appear for the examinations conducted by the Supreme Court of India.
Significance of AOR:
A case or petition may only be filed in the Supreme Court by an Advocate on Record. No other attorney, no matter how experienced, can accomplish this without an AOR’s help.
An AOR is in charge of the court’s regulatory processes, case filing, and adherence to its regulations. They serve as the client’s main point of contact with the court. If any court procedural rules are broken, the AOR may be held liable for the appropriate handling of the matter.
